The international festival bearing the name of the great impresario Sergei Diaghilev was held in Perm for the eleventh time on May 14-25. As part of the festival program, the Perm Museum of Modern Art PERMM organized an exhibition devoted to local manufacturing companies. The exhibition showcased works of Russian artists who visited large plants and factories located in Perm Region. The exhibits conveyed the impressions and observations of the artists from visiting the plants.
There were three parts of the exhibition: the Library of Sounds, that included unique sound portraits of each plant recorded right at the manufacturing facility; Color Images of the workshops; and Smells of certain workshops and manufacturing areas.
The exhibition was initiated by Katya Bochvar, a Russian artist, curator, sculptor and designer of exhibition spaces. Katya has devoted many years of her career to research and presentation of industrial objects. For instance, in 2013 she organized an exhibition of contemporary sculptures made from refractory products.
Katya Bochivar, project initiator:
«I’d like the visitors to see the unique portrait of each plant that we’ve been to. I hope I will have a chance to continue this project and show the colors and fonts used by the plants. In fact, anything can become part of a museum exposition. We are living in a changing world, and the technologies we have today will soon disappear. That is why it is important to preserve them. I find it extremely intriguing and romantic».
The project united a group of Russian artists and several large enterprises, including Perm Paper Making Company, Perm Engine Company, Perm Flour Milling Plant, Wood Toy Making Company, Motovilikha Plants, Incab and others.
The exhibition was held as part of the International Diaghilev Festival under the auspices of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs of Perm Region.
